Cryo-electron tomography of coronavirus infected cells

Main content start

(August 2020)

A cryo-electron tomography (cryoET) project is being launched by a group of molecular virologists, computer vision experts, computer scientists and electrical engineers.  They aim to use CryoET and image reconstruction to retrieve the full structures of the virions and various viral components during coronavirus assembly in situ, as well as various affected subcellular components, at different stages of the virus infection.

This structure discovery can yield leads to the most affected cellular structures and virus unique machinery as molecular targets for drug intervention.
